Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD) Undergraduate Scholarship Programme (China) 2012

Eligibility and Criteria

Candidates of the Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD) International Scholarship Programme – China must fulfill the following requirements:

• Malaysia

• Aged 21 or below

• Proficient in Mandarin (both written and spoken)

• Obtained excellent result in ‘Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia’ (STPM) trial examination; OR A-Level OR ‘The Unified Examination Certificate’ (UEC). Please refer to the details below on minimum academic requirement for STPM, A-Level and UEC.

• Total household income will be taken into consideration

• Active participation in extra-curricular activities, sporting event and community service

• Strong leadership qualities through various leadership positions held in school and societies

• Received an offer from China’s top universities for enrolment in the selected undergraduate course  (only applicable for successful applicant)

• First and second year students who are currently pursuing undergraduate studies at selected universities in China as mentioned below AND achieved second class upper results are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Academic Requirement

Accepted Fields of Study

Scholarships will be offered to candidates who are inclined to pursue the following fields of study, subject to university’s admission offer:

• Business : Economics, Accountancy, Business / Management, Commerce or Finance

• Engineering: Mechanical, Chemical, Civil or Electrical

Accepted Top Universities in China

Below is the list of top universities in China, accepted by YSD for the scholarship programme:

• Peking University

• Tsinghua University

• Zhejiang University

• Fudan University

• Nanjing University

• Shanghai Jiaotong University

• Wuhan University

• Renmin University of China

• Huazhong University of Science and Technology

• Sun Yat-sen University

• XinJiang University

Scholarship Selection Process

• YSD will shortlist the candidates who have successfully fulfilled the criteria of scholarship eligibility and minimum academic requirements.
• Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo initial stage of scholarship assessment to be  conducted by YSD.
• Candidates who are successful in the initial stage of assessment will then be required to attend the following test(s), depending on the university’s admission requirements:

• Candidates must also pass in any admission interview(s) carried out by the University (depending on  the University’s requirement)

• Only candidates who are successful in the university’s entrance examination and / or HSK test will be invited to attend the next  YSD scholarship assessments for scholarship award.

Value of Scholarship

Full scholarship includes tuition fees, board and lodging, computer allowance, shipping allowance, and flight ticket for beginning and end of study.

Recipients of scholarship will have the opportunity to undergo Scholars Development Programme and experience work exposure through internship within the Sime Darby Group of Companies.

Service Bond Period

On completion of studies, scholars will be required to serve Sime Darby Group of Companies for 4 to 6 years, depending on the duration and value of the award.

Please mail completed scholarship application form along with required supporting documents to the address mentioned below before 5.00 pm, 31 March 2012 by stating “YSD China Scholarship – your full name” on the top right of the envelope. Students who are currently in Malaysia must submit scholarship application manually.
